Barbarians are a type of human who are far superior to their southern cousins physically, having adapted to their harsh environment in the great Northern Wastes. Fierce in spirit and wary of many modern things, they bear a great deal of animosity for the foreign art of magic. Barbarians are tribal by nature and tend to live off of wild game and make their homes in small, tribal-oriented villages. Due to their long and hard conditioning, they have become extremely strong willed and are not easily swayed once they have made up their minds.

Barbarians have a reputation for being loud and boisterous individuals. When in the presence of less hardy races, they enjoy roughing them up as if they were younger siblings. They are often seen giving advice on subjects such as how to become a great warrior and how best to handle the opposite sex. They feel that their poor cousins to the south have been turned to delicate flowers and would do well to return to the ways of nature.

Although Barbarians are neither stupid nor foolhardy, they are typically unaccustomed to civilized life. This attribute usually makes them easy game for a slick tongued thief. However, if they realize that they have been had, Barbarians will stop at nothing to take a thief’s head.

Concerning war and survival, Barbarians are often recognized as experts and will make for good allies in times of dire need. Barbarians are extremely confident in their abilities on the battlefield and often wade into combat heedless of the consequences.

Barbarians have deeply rooted suspicions about magic and those who practice it, and will often seek to kill mages once they are aware of them. Necromancy and Fire magic are held in particular disdain by Barbarian society and it will usually take some cooler heads to prevent a Barbarian from turning violent in the face of them.

Role-playing

  1. Barbarians despise arcane magic and those who practice it and regard them with deep suspicion; the greater the magical power, the greater the suspicion.
  2. A Barbarian cannot quit a fight once she’s gotten involved in one, except if she is the last person on her side that is still standing, or if all others on her side are in the act of retreating.

Costuming and Makeup

Barbarians generally clad themselves in earth-tone fabrics and furs and leathers, and adorn themselves with other wild-looking accoutrements such as foxtails and feathers. Some barbarians wear tribal face paint.

Barbarians begin with 8 Body.
