Hobbits are a diminutive folk who try to live quiet, safe lives. Rarely standing more than four feet in height, they usually make a comfortable home for themselves in the foothills of lush valleys. They take great pride in the simple joys; good food, fine wine and a proper pipe filled with sweet tobacco. Known for their lack of footwear, Hobbits are endowed with disproportionately large feet that are topped with thick fur. Not being particularly brave, it is a rare Hobbit who dares venture beyond his shire. All day long they sit beside their fireplaces with friends and indulge in overeating. Hobbits are usually quick-witted and very congenial; they tend to have many true and dear friends. Though they may be a bit lazy, they are good and wholesome people.

Most Hobbits are more than happy to live out their lives as farmers or country tradesmen. However, some Hobbits wander into human cities, where they can grow to love the excitement and the bustle. These Hobbits often wonder how the others back home can live without all that the city has to offer. Regardless of how they earn their living, nearly all Hobbits prefer a nice daily routine and a comfy home. Yet there are those unbelievably rare Hobbits who find adventure calling to them more enticingly than a warm scone with honeyed butter. Hobbits often prove fearless in times of crisis, for though they worry and fret about the smallest of things, they keep their wits about them during those rare moments when things are desperate or dangerous.

Hobbits have inquisitive minds and deft hands. They have a tendency to pick up trinkets and baubles and mindlessly drop them into their pouches. Not all Hobbits are thieves - they just have a tendency to gain other people’s things without even realizing they have just stolen something.

Hobbits are a jolly race devoted to having a good, yet safe, time. They will shy away from combat, but will act almost heroically when friends are on the line. Hobbits get along with just about anyone, though they do have a great fear of the goblinoids; some say it is because goblinoids see Hobbits as a delicious lunch, but other stories tell of a time long ago, when the race of Hobbits wronged the goblinoids in some way. Hobbits also dislike High Elves because of their condescension and arrogance. In the company of those they trust Hobbits are friendly, fun loving, and hospitable.

Hobbits mature to adulthood in their late teenage years and have a life span of approximately one hundred years.

Role-playing

  1. Hobbits have a deep fear of goblinoids and have a hard time being in their presence; they will often seek to convince others of the imminent danger that goblinoids pose to their well-being, and assume that just about any action a goblinoid takes is intended to do them harm.
  2. The allure of food and drink is almost impossible for a Hobbit to ignore. A Hobbit will generally set aside all other priorities and goals if confronted with an opportunity to eat some tasty food or drink a nice beverage.

Costuming and Makeup

Hobbits wear practical clothes and avoid anything that fits too snugly or binds too tightly – such garments get in the way of eating a proper meal. If your feet will be exposed, you must apply fake hair to the tops of them.
