Take heed of these laws set down upon the Third of October of the year 1203.

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse from the law.

Laws protecting the Person

None shall steal, damage, or destroy another’s property.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined in the amount of the damages three-fold. The Barony will remit two-fold to the victim and retain one-fold. If property was stolen and is recoverable, the convicted will restore the property to the victim, and shall be fined twice the full value of the property; one-fold will be remitted to the victim, one-fold to the Barony. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will additionally spend from one to three months in the dungeon. If the convicted has broken with this law twice or more before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall invade the domain of another.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces, one half of which the Barony will remit to the victim. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will additionally spend from one to three months in the dungeon. If the convicted has broken with this law twice or more before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall bring harm or attempt to bring harm to another, excepting in the virtue of defense.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces, one half of which the Barony will remit to the victim. If the harm inflicted was grievous, then the convicted will additionally spend from one to three months in the dungeon and the victim shall be entitled to one belonging of the convicted. If the harm inflicted was mortal, then the convicted will be publicly executed, and the victim shall be entitled to one belonging of the convicted. If the victim of the crime is an Officer of the Barony or one who is of noble title, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall torture another, nor cause the insanity of another, nor control the mind, body, or emotions of another excepting with the explicit sanction of a Lord or the Baron, or if the subject be - of free and clear spirit - willing.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces, one half of which the Barony will remit to the victim, and will spend from one to three months in the dungeon.  If the victim of the crime is an Officer of the Barony, then the convicted will be fined between twenty and fifty gold pieces, one half of which the Barony will remit to the victim, and will spend from three to six months in the dungeon. If the victim of the crime is of noble title, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall hold or confine another, nor conceal the whereabouts of another without consent, excepting the Guard or the Sheriff in the courses of their duties, or one of noble title where necessity demands.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces, one half of which the Barony will remit to the victim, and will spend from one to three months in the dungeon.  If the victim of the crime is an Officer of the Barony, then the convicted will be fined between twenty and fifty gold pieces, one half of which the Barony will remit to the victim, and will spend from three to six months in the dungeon. If the victim of the crime is of noble title, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall buy, sell, or keep slaves. Whosoever serves another unwillingly and without compensation is called a slave.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces, one half of which the Barony will remit to the victim, and will spend from one to three months in the dungeon.  If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall forge the name or seal of another, nor claim to be the person of another, nor speak falsely in another’s stead, nor bear false witness, nor perjure.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces, one half of which the Barony will remit to the victim. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will additionally spend from one to three months in the dungeon. If the convicted has broken with this law twice or more before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

Laws protecting the Public

None shall practice Necromancy.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be publicly executed, shall be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall claim falsely to be of noble title, nor claim falsely that another is of noble title, nor through ambiguity allow another to believe one to be of noble title who is not.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be publicly executed, shall be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall refuse the Guard or the Sheriff in the courses of their duties, nor interfere in their conduct, nor refuse one of noble title in any regard, nor interfere in their conduct, nor refuse to be conscripted in the defense of the Barony.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will additionally spend from one to three months in the dungeon. If the convicted has broken with this law twice or more before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None of common rank shall abuse one of noble title, nor besmirch the reputation of one of noble title, nor encourage others to do so.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will additionally spend from one to three months in the dungeon. If the convicted has broken with this law twice or more before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall serve or aid an enemy of the Barony, nor take arms against the Barony, nor hinder another in the pursuit of an enemy of the Barony.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be publicly executed, shall be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall practice espionage against the Barony.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be publicly executed, shall be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall refuse taxation by the Barony.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall spend one month in the dungeon. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will spend from one to three months in the dungeon, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall buy, sell, keep, or use poison, excepting with the explicit sanction of a Lord or the Baron.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces. If the poison is a mortal sort, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will additionally spend from one to three months in the dungeon. If the convicted has broken with this law twice or more before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall worship, nor preach, nor serve Malyc, Aguarra, Galmachis, Glomm, the demon Ramular, nor any demonic entities.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces, and will spend from one to three months in the dungeon.  If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will be publicly executed, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall call forth prayers nor perform rituals of Malyc, Aguarra, Galmachis, Glomm, the demon Ramular, nor any demonic entities.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be publicly executed, shall be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall summon demonic forces, nor serve them, nor perform rituals in accordance with them.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be publicly executed, shall be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

Wild mages, unbranded Drow, and Nyads must present themselves to the Baron upon their arrival in the Barony and identify themselves in kind, and submit to a confession prayer. Any who wish to remain in the Barony must submit to a confession prayer before the Baron upon the Friday of each Baron’s Feast.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be exiled.

Any who reside in the Barony for more than a fortnight, excepting those whom the Baron permits otherwise or who are of noble title, are considered subjects of the Barony and must register with the Chancellery of the Census.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be fined between ten and twenty gold pieces. If the convicted has broken with this law before, then the convicted will additionally spend from one to three months in the dungeon. If the convicted has broken with this law twice or more before, then the convicted will spend from three to six months in the dungeon, will be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

None shall conspire to break with a law of the Barony.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be punished according to the law the convicted conspired to break with.

None shall attempt to escape from lawful detainment or imprisonment.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be publicly executed, shall be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

Trespassing upon Restricted Territory

June, 1207: By decree of his most Honorable Stewardship William Montgomery, it is now illegal to travel into Restricted Territories without sanctioned consent by the acting Steward or Baron, or, in his absence, a Lord of the Lands of Travance. Any person found to be in violation of this law will be punished through fines and service to the community on the first offense, and fines and jail time on further offenses.
