The Inn is a wonderful place to get a drink, meet new people, and shake off the dust of a recent battle. It can present good RP opportunities, and you are almost assured that you will be there for the next battle. It is my opinion that the best RP exists in smaller, closer knit groups. The fewer people around, the fewer distractions to your acting abilities, and the less chance of someone talking about their favorite Play Station 2 game in the background. One of the biggest problems with going to a smaller cabin for people is the atmosphere. The inn is well decorated with standards, candles, chandeliers, and wall hangings. Most peoples cabins are decorated with Mountain Dew cans and bags of Combos. Not conductive to atmosphere anywhere but a college dorm. If effort were put into properly decorating a cabin, and hiding all out of game materials, the atmosphere there would welcome, and encourage RP. A good example is the Pirate cabin Captain Sleafus had last month. It was wonderfully decorated in every way. Even down to a hammock to sleep in. Anyone who went there to plot, scheme, gamble, or simply discuss the world would have no trouble feeling that they were in an extension of Travance. I strongly encourage everyone to decorate their cabins as best they can to reflect the characters they are portraying. And to USE the cabins as well. Not just to sleep in, but to RP in. The more that people do this, the more plot will send out encounters into the woods to be found by wandering bands of heroes. Decorations do not have to be expensive; a few candles, some dollar store lamps and the like. Perhaps a wall hanging found at a yard sale. And the throw rug your mother wanted to throw away because you spilled grape juice on it. Make the cabin you sleep in yours. Be proud to take other adventure seekers there for ale after the fighting, or to seal an alliance with a rival. -Luke G. |
