The Director is the first and final voice in all elements of Knight Realms operations. He manages the business affairs of Knight Realms, sets all policies and appoints or dismisses Officers as required. Only the Director can countermand a decision made by the Director. The Director’s responsibilities and authority are globally comprehensive within the Knight Realms organization, and cannot be identified singly in any practical manner.

Staff Compensation

In return for their efforts and responsibilities, the Staff (Officers and Deputies) of Knight Realms receive the following compensation:

Officers

  • The cost of the first two PCs played by an Officer at an event is covered by the game.  Additional PCs may be played at the normal price for additional PCs (i.e. the normal reduced rate for additional PCs).
  • Any PCs played by an Officer receive the maximum build possible for an event, including RP, SP, and Bought Build.  This is not additional free build, it is the normal maximum per event that is compensated for by the game.
  • Lifestyle Build is not covered by this, and must be earned In-Game.

Deputies

  • Any PCs played by a Deputy receive the maximum build possible for an event, including RP, SP, and Bought Build.  This is not additional free build, it is the normal maximum per event that is compensated for by the game.
  • Lifestyle Build is not covered by this, and must be earned In-Game.

Marshals

Marshals are individuals chosen by the Officers and the Director and report directly to a designated Officer. Within his or her scope of service, only the Director or the Officer of that service can overrule a Marshal. In addition to the responsibilities stated for each class of Marshal, all Marshals are expected to assist the Director as needed.

Rules Marshals

Rules Marshals (RMs) have a high degree of responsibility at Knight Realms, and are considered to be “on the job” at all times during events. The responsibility and authority that comes with being an RM carries a substantial intrinsic reward that many players seek, but in addition, RMs are rewarded with tangible, game-related benefits.

Responsibilites

An RM has four primary duties:

  1. Maintain an online presence between events sufficient to keep up to date with rules changes, special rules considerations for upcoming plots, and other issues that require the attention of RMs. In addition, RMs are invited to take part in the discussion of rules revisions that are under consideration; participation in these discussions is not a requirement, but a privilege.
  2. Serve one four-hour shift marshaling game encounters; this shift can be counted as fulfilling the RMs NPC duty requirement. During the shift, the RM should work with the Monster Marshals and plot coordinators who are organizing and sending out encounters to determine which encounters he or she should accompany. The RM should learn all the pertinent details of the encounter that the Monster Marshal or plot writer is willing to share with, and should review the statistics of any NPCs (at the discretion of the plot writer, if some degree of secrecy is required).

While accompanying an encounter, the RM should focus on monitoring the proper use of skills and abilities by NPCs and PCs, as well as auditing PC cards at the conclusion of the encounter (or during the encounter, if a violation is perceived). The RM should not be managing the story aspect of the encounter except in cases of extraordinary necessity, nor should the RM being playing an NPC part in the encounter. The RM should wear a white headband at all times and should not interact with other players outside of what is required to perform his or her duty.
  3. Serve in the RM Pool as needed. The RM Pool is a system by which additional RMs can be provided to oversee large or especially complex encounters. An RM assigned to the pool will accompany one or more encounters in addition to his or her normal four-hour shift. The guidelines for conduct are the same as for the normal shift, though the RM may be needed to help manage story aspects of the encounter more often in these situations. RMs can volunteer to be in the pool at any event. In the event that there are not enough volunteers, RMs will be assigned to the pool in the order of the RM roster; mandatory assignments will progress through the roster and back to the top again over the course of events, so that no RM will be forced to serve in the pool for two consecutive events, and likely quite less than that.

To the extent that it is possible, RMs will be told of their pool assignments in advance of the encounters occurring; however, it may occasionally be necessary that an RM will have to quit his or her present activity at a moment’s notice and proceed to a pool assignment.
  4. Outside of his or her four-hour shift and pool assignment, an RM should always keep an eye towards the proper use of skills and abilities, to the adherence to the game rules by all players in all situations, and to the careful auditing of PC cards after encounters. In addition, an RM is constantly responsible for maintaining a safe playing environment and for the adherence to Knight Realms policy by all players in all situations.

Rewards

There are two rewards that RMs are eligible to receive at each event:

  1. For each event that an RM attends while on the active roster, he or she receives 500 Service Points – which should be marked on the card by the RM, and will not be automatically added.
  2. For each event that an RM is placed in the RM Pool and performs at least one pool assignment, he or she receives 1 build – which also should be marked on the card by the RM.

Role-Play Marshals

Role-Play Marshals monitor the atmospheric and role-play quality of Knight Realms. Role-Play Marshals report to the Atmosphere Officer. The roster of Role-Play Marshals is limited to a ratio of one Role-Play Marshal for every ten players, the number to be calculated each April and based upon the highest recorded attendance of the previous twelve months.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities and authority of Role-Play Marshals includes, but at the discretion of the Director is not limited to the following:
  1. Communicate with the Atmosphere Officer on any problem confronting the successful operation of Knight Realms
  2. Perform to the best of his or her ability as a role-model in all aspects of Knight Realms, as a player, a marshal, and a person
  3. Award Role-Play Points for outstanding effort in role-playing or cabin decor
  4. Deduct Role-Play Points for deliberate or negligent poor role-play or cabin decor
  5. Issue rules violations for significant disruption of the game atmosphere.
  6. Recommend additional sanctioning to the Atmosphere Officer for exceptional infractions.

Monster Marshals

The Monster Marshals are assistant storytellers of a sort, creating a background on which larger and longer plot lines may be featured. Each Monster Marshal is a veteran of the game who has demonstrated strong story crafting skills as well as knowledge of Knight Realms game mechanics. Monster Marshals are also responsible for make up and costuming, as well as some degree of role play training for NPCs to ensure a high quality of encounters throughout a given game weekend.

Responsibilities

Requirements and Expectations of Monster Marshals:

  1. You must have attended a minimum of 12 events.
  2. You must submit to the Logistics Officer 2 concept "Random Encounters" and 1 concept "Mini-Module" including NPC stats, hooking and set up information, and intended encounter "level".
  3. You must serve two months of Monster Marshal "Training" shifts, where you will act as an assistant to the Monster Marshal on duty. These training shifts will be in addition to your normal NPC shift. You will receive service for your added work time for the game.
A Monster Marshal must be able to demonstrate the following skills to be accepted:
  1. Write Modules and Encounters.
  2. Assess and manage treasure appropriate to encounter level.
  3. Assist Storytellers in sending out encounters.
  4. Train NPCs in both the mechanics and roleplay of their NPC roles.
  5. Assist NPCs with Make up and Costuming (both application and clean up)
  6. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of Logistics.

Rewards

For their service to the game, Monster Marshals receive 600 service (150 per hour of their 4 hour shift) each weekend.
