    Captain Alverez's Afternoon Parley

    in The Dragon's Claw Board

I am going to preface everything written here is not an order of any kind. This is a personal request from myself, Ilana Darkwood, and Talaniel Starling

This is information we are providing from everyone's gathered research on relations with Coast Haven and the individuals involved.

    ----

There appears to be a meeting, a Parley, arranged at 1pm at the behest of Captain Alverez between the Inn and the Bank.

The presentation of this meeting will reflect on us as a barony and as a Kingdom when we continue negotiations with Queen Luiza de la Borrasca of Coast Haven.

We are currently stuck with a go between, Duke Massimo Alighieri, who is not our friend and is waiting for any opportunity to reflect us in a bad light and urge aggression against the Kingdom in its weakened state. As this is a Parley, the Captain has provided these rules (you also can see this in the notes Maria provided) :

    • Anyone sitting at the table is safe from any hostilities on either side.

    • Anyone not at the table is not protected and may be attacked or slain by either side without breaking the trust of those at the table

    • I will accept no monsters at my table

    • You may bring any teas or food you wish, and I shall bring mine.

To define ‘monster’ in the way Captain Alverez uses it as far as I can tell. There are probably more but use this as a very rough guideline:

    • Anyone bound to a ‘higher power’ that is not divine in nature. The easiest examples include:

    • Dragoons

    • Most Empyreans

    • Exemplars/Soul Binders

    • Creatures not native to the material plane or descendant of them. A few examples include:

    • Planar Faeries (I do not know if he feels the same about faekin and Faerhyen however)

    • Zakol

We have sent a request for amendments and if the request is entertained, I will update this missive.

This is a chance to acquire information that research cannot provide and insight on his mannerisms from the various influences of the blade, the dragon spirits, and anything else that may be bound to the Captain.

Please, follow the rules and do not attack him while he is sitting at the table.

Either way, he SHOULD NOT BE KILLED. The spirits currently bound to him are in a fragile state and this will cause them injury without preparation.

Do not have me defend this man, because I will.

We are trying to avoid utilizing Duke Massimo Alighieri as a means to speak with Queen Luiza as best we can. This means we need to try and be better than him and the Captain for a little while.

Focus your ire on the constructs for now.

Not all the crew members of Captain Alverez are willing participants to this campaign. We want you to consider capturing these individuals and minimizing unnecessary death. Sailors captured and sent back to Coast Haven may know things that Alverez or Duke Massimo do not wish us to know, or may carry better stories of us to the higher echelons of Coast Haven.

We will make efforts to keep them alive.

The more Travance can persuade the Queen to like the town, and not like the Duke, the closer we are to defeating him

Coast Haven’s past with us is rocky at best and I do not believe that it was at fault of the Queen. We have a chance to reforge something new, a true alliance, and help both kingdoms flourish in a way they have not in years.

Thank you all for your time.

    - Ilana Darkwood

*Not Caelvan* Normally, I am all for diplomacy, regardless which side suggests it. It often can win you an ally or at least stop the fighting and save lives. A worthwhile pursuit. However, this man is planning on killing my family, both my clan back in the highlands if he were to succeed here, and the dragoons that I have met and have considered me a member of their family here.

Diplomacy be damned in this case, I am not a worthwhile fighter like many who have posted here, and will not be present. But I request you throw a few punches at him on my behalf.

    Thank you,

Ahem... To be fair Jerico it is not notably Genocide. How often vengeful men use words they understand little of. Hold your ground, and give the bastard a proper defamation. He is attempting to commit Democide, namely because he is pushing his strung up beliefs along with this romp of his, it includes Genocide. Very good. A 1000 gold bounty on Illana if she clearly commits treason, as a backing to our Ladies words. We feel she won't dispute this. Now to be blunt, we could care less about any dragon soul or salvation of man less it gives us something in return. Where our cousin Nickola is more drab and poignant, he makes good measure to spell things out. What you may fail to understand, if you read this now, infuriated so. There are men, flesh and blood, They would insinuate us monsters, So we have every intent to prove them correct. 500 gold for both of Alverez's eyes. For no reason other then to hurt the thing of a man. - Moostrav Potrevski

Let me take this moment to be absolutely clear: Captain Alverez is an enemy of Travance. There are no orders from on high to allow him life, liberty, or limb. If you attack someone who is engaging an enemy of Travance, you, too, become an enemy of Travance. By all means, continue discussion and try to come to a consensus, but the moment you swing on another Travancian, there will be no rock big enough to hide under, even if it be a mountain. And to the unsigned respondent above: This is a good plan. The Captain may still be formidable without his crew, but removing any of his support is a sound tactic. In Service to Travance,

Forget the Captain. Consider this an opportunity to land a decisive strike at the convictions of his crew. Swords rarely break those, after all, but take away that first "S" and you've got a much better tool to do so. *The letter is unsigned.*

    I will not stop

    I will not relent

    Until this fetid cumberworld

    Lies broken.

    Your only recourse

    To stop me

    Is to kill me first.

To respond to a previously made notation here, it is extremely important that these tormented spirits be freed and brought to his Grace, not killed. It is our belief that they won't be able to survive if we do not do this as soon as possible. Sir Gras, myself and a few others will lead them to his Grace, our Count if and when Travance manages to free them. Please... please do not kill these souls. Killing the man who is in possession of the Song of Agony currently presents a massive risk to their souls, so please... try not to kill him while they are still trapped with him. May the light guide our paths and keep us all safe.

Focus ire on machines that have no purpose other than to follow the orders of their creator? Rather than on a mad man bent on genocide.

The barony of travance has lost its mind.

An official meeting between this body of governing and Alvarez, who is not an official envoy, not an official diplomat, not under any form of diplomatic protection. Yet you welcome him at our table, none the less.

Yes your morals have a high ground, but are you all not able to have more than one moral rattling around in your orb of emotion.

The tone this meeting sets. The tone that all will see there after.

Travance is your friendly neighborhood garbage collector of problematic people.

Stuck in a quagmire of where to go with a problem. Send it to travance and let them debate the morality of genocide.

    Beuacracy be damned.

I will leave a notation here so that it is known prior to this parlay. I will not order anyone under my purview to stay their blades for this individual. If they chose they want blood, I give them permission to do so. After assumedly hundreds of years of agony that those spirits have been in, it may be time for them to finally get some rest instead of continuing to exist on this world.

That is not for us to decide though. I do not know if it will be possible but I am intending on trying to contact them and discern whether they wish to keep 'living' in some level or finally come to some sort of rest. That said, as one who may speak for the land, I give my people permission to proceed as they feel is best. I will not attempt to stop them. You have my gratitude in sharing this information with us, Ilana. This will allow my people to make an informed decision on how they wish to proceed. Lady Lois, I will be sure talk with my own as well about the inevitable attack on the good Captain's part and I will have them report to you if they find any information out. -Ser Oacenth Nesterin of Alisandria

    Dear Ilana,

It seems your knack for trying to shield people from the consequences of their actions extends to yourself. It will be your choice to defend someone who, if I may remind everyone, is quite literally here to kill the Count and drain the spirit of the last living dragon on Arawyn. No one is "making" you do anything here except stick to your convictions - if they are truly convictions and not just actions born of fear.

I don't believe for a moment that this parley isn't just a distraction. If the dragoons want Alverez alive in order to save those souls he has bound to his sword, then I will do what I can to help them. If they want him dead, then I will be more than delighted to assist with that course of action as well. Regardless, whomsoever does not wish to be part of this parley may want to consider keeping an eye out for whatever attack Alverez is planning to launch during this time. Alternately, you could tell me if you're good at scuttling ships or have a large supply of very strong alchemical glue.

As for the Duke, he is just another in a long line of pathetic men who hide behind twisted words, and use others' good nature to further their plans. Unfortunately for him, I don't have a good nature to take advantage of. Make no mistake, Travance: we are already at war with this Duke; it is only a different kind of war on a different battlefield than most of you are used to. I already discussed this with you and the other nobles Lois.

I am far more interested in people who are not at this parley figuring out what is actually about to happen. There are a lot of other targets that can actually be dealt with.

It is a setup, either on his end or just giving everyone an excuse. It is being held outside after all. I'm not expecting to actually enjoy tea.

You appreciate my stubbornness once in awhile. But, to everyone else's credit for not usually seeing this: I take the concept of parley seriously, it is a bit of a sticking point for me even when it is usually a trap on the other side. Trap or not, something useful is taken from it each time so far.

If there is a fear about the meeting itself, it is history simply looping on Travance's end.

Tends to swing first at these meetings and reinforce being the 'problem'.

More fear for those souls potentially being destroyed.

Your choice to accept his terms of 'Monsters' Shows you agree that we are such. Shows you look at your own people in such manner. Your choice to defend this same man Over the lives of your own people Is one that will be burned Into your reputation and name. Your request has been noted And ignored. Be ready to defend the dragonslayer. Nikola Malagan

    Nikola,

He should not be killed at this time or all the dragon spirits are destroyed.

If he is attacked at that table, it is more fuel against this kingdom for the Duke to use later.

A pyre is already set, how big do we really want that fire?

I do not want people harmed going to this parley unaware of what this man believes. I watched him be able to point everyone out. He has a way to tell. They may go if they want, but they are now at least informed.

    Your statement is duly noted.

    -Ilana

*a note added in quicker writing*

You remember I was a wild mage Niko.

I'll be fighting alongside everyone else when this interaction fails.

I just want him to be the reason it does.
