Greetings Knights and ne'er do wells,
A pair of my darling friends and myself have turned our attention onto this inviting and enticing world of yours and hope we are able to call it our home in the near future. However, I have many many questions as this is our first adventure into this world. If any of you are able to assist me/us getting familiar it would be wildly appreciated.
Eagerly,
Albel Albion
Hi there Albel! Pleasure to meet you and welcome to our community! More than happy to help out with any questions if you need it!!!
Sorry for the delayed response. Work life and all that fun. I found the first visit page and that was all very helpful but we still have a few questions:
Is it tent camping for the weekend?
The 205 page guidebook has been helpful and I continue to read it over and over again. However. How much is expected of us to have memorized for first session?
What happens if our character dies?
Is there a way to access the character sheet beforehand?
My own vanity is concerned about not "looking the part". I'm sure there is no judgement on costumes or gear but do you have any advice on what I should invest in bringing with me for our first adventure?
That should be it for round one heh.
It's all good! I totally get that life. Let me see what I can do about answering your questions. You are allowed to bring and set up a tent if you would like to go that route, however there are cabins and bunks available as well. The inn and barn tend to be first-come-first-serve, and logistics will have a listing at check-in with any available spaces at the other cabins. No one is gonna expect you to have the entire rulebook memorized, so don't stress. There is a lot, and it is also a brand new rulebook for even the veteran players right now, so we are all learning together! I know for my first event I pretty much just knew what my card did as well as the basics of combat and that was it. If anyone ever calls a skill and you don't understand what it does, you can ask them to clarify. Character death is handled in the rulebook. The quick explanation is that if you die, you go into blue headband to represent being in the spirit realm. Any player with resurrection can bring you back via that skill and you will go roll on a chart in logistics to determine the after-effects of your death. There will be a way to access the character sheet, however with the new rules they are working on a new character database. It has not been completed yet, but there will be announcements once it is! You're absolutely right that we don't judge based on costumes or gear. As for what to wear, it really depends on what sort of look you want for your character. Certain regions of the game world do have styles associated with them, which can help you out with ideas, but are not required costuming in order to be from them. Ultimately, it is your decision as to what you want to look like. We do have a few vendors that also come to our events and will be set up all weekend. If you want, I'm sure we can point you to their pages to see what they might have available as far as garb for you to purchase! As far as other gear, bring whatever you'll need for the weekend. Sleeping bag (even if you're sleeping in one of the bunks you will need to bring bedding), food for the weekend (normally breakfasts are provided as well as feast saturday night, but I don't know how that will change once we are doing live games again), extra socks, etc. We also definitely recommend bringing some sort of in-game reuseable drinking vessel so that you have your own mug to keep yourself hydrated.
These answers have been exceptionally helpful. Thank you! I'm sorry for having so many (and the many more I will have in the future) questions. This is something I and we have been interested in for a while and are finally taking the plunge. I think have enough of a grasp on the material to fumble through the mechanics. I suppose my next question is a bit of an umbrella question.
How would we go about introducing our characters into the world and make sure that they are lore friendly?
