Prologue for March 2026 - Alt Event

The Eternal Confluence has never been a place of total peace, but neither was it meant to be a place of strife. Souls from countless lives arrive here in uncertainty, pausing along the winding path between death and whatever fate awaits them beyond. In this strange realm, memories falter, convictions shift, and even the most certain spirits find themselves questioning the lives they once lived. For many, the Eternal Confluence is a place of reflection and reconciliation, where the dead slowly come to understand both the end they have reached and the path that may yet lie ahead.

Yet in recent days, an unease has begun to take hold of the realm.

Celestials who once carried out their duties with solemn purpose have grown increasingly hostile toward one another. At first this seemed little more than the familiar rivalries of the Eodrian gods. Servants of opposing gods have always viewed one another with at best suspicion, and at worst open violence, so sharp words between them were nothing new. But something has changed. Conflicts that once remained contained between traditional foes have begun to spill outward, spreading into disputes between beings who were once steadfast allies. Accusations are traded where none were before. Patrols move with greater aggression. Even the most measured servants of the gods seem restless, as though guided by instincts they themselves do not fully understand.

Amid these rising tensions, rumors circulate among the denizens of the Confluence of something far stranger still.

A handful of individuals claim to have glimpsed a presence moving at the edges of perception, something that cannot be clearly seen or remembered. These witnesses struggle even to describe what they experienced. Some recall a distortion in the air, others a sensation of being watched from a great distance. Most of those who hear these accounts dismiss them as the imaginings of unsettled souls, yet the stories continue to spread quietly through the places of rest and wandering paths of the realm. However a seeming few claim to have laid eyes on its true form, the horror of which seems to directly contrast with the varying other rumored appearances. None seem to be able to agree on what it truly is.

At the same time, a deeper curiosity has begun to stir among the inhabitants of the Confluence itself. Though countless souls pass through its mist-wrapped fields and shifting horizons, few have ever truly questioned the origin of the place they inhabit. It simply came to be after the unification of Eodra, as unquestioned as the passage from life into death. But with tensions rising and strange phenomena appearing across the realm, more voices have begun to ask a troubling question:

Who created the Eternal Confluence, and what is its true purpose?

For all the celestials who walk its roads and watch over its wandering spirits, none claim to have shaped it. The gods themselves do not walk its soil. No temple records describe its forging, and no divine servant can speak with certainty about its purpose beyond vague tradition and assumption. The Eternal Confluence stands apart from the other realms of Eodra, a place both within and strangely outside the divine order.

Now, as unrest spreads and unanswered questions grow louder, many who dwell here are beginning to wonder whether the Eternal Confluence was ever as simple as the purgatory they believed it to be.

And whether something unseen may already be moving within it.
