  • Prologue for February 2026

On the outskirts of the town of Altrion, a thin man in alchemically stained clothing writes in a journal. He writes down mixtures, experimental notes, and hypotheses he wishes to test. Moreover, he looks to his coin purse, rereads the notes on his stock, and accounts the prices he currently has set. Another book sits at the edge of the desk, along with a map of the town of Travance.   Deep in a snowy mountain village, a hulking figure sits at an anvil. They admire a small dagger that shimmers with a light purple energy, and as they hold the blade up to their ear, they smile as faint whispers and screams emanate from their craft. Surrounding them, groups of figures that shamble and clank with distinct metallic tones wait patiently for orders. On a creaking wagon travelling past Abergavenney, armor-clad passengers look to each other as they begin leaving the town. Their blades and armor stained with blood, tinged with dark residue, and radiating a power only they themselves truly understand. The tallest of them counts copious amounts of silver that pile in a pouch, and with a knowing look to their companions, he packs it away and prepares to fill it more.   A lone campsite sits in an open plain, where Nordejar pass drinks and food during their brief respite. One of them forgoes the merriment of the evening to sharpen their axe. For them, there will be plenty of time to celebrate once their goal is complete. With a drag of their whetstone they look to their father, who is leading a toast to the rest of their group before taking a large swig of his mead. There was no doubt of their loyalty before, but they reassure themselves that they will prove their worth soon. A large ship docks into Leighyre for the night, and an elven man speaks to a dockhand to haggle over docking prices. Although a reasonable price is first introduced, the elf angrily talks down to the dockhand and attempts to convey the importance of their cargo. Defeated and intimidated, the dockhand begrudgingly accepts half of their original offer, and leaves the well-dressed elf to mutter to themselves. As he makes his other rounds, he wonders why the younger elf was so pressed to negotiate himself instead of the captain, who apparently chose to not leave the ship. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A lone guard stationed just before the rift reads over multiple reports, her eyes tired and demeanor grim. She sorts the reports by crime; theft, missing persons, murder; all of which reach a height that surpass what a normal week entails. Wracking their brain for reasons, the guard’s thoughts keep wandering to their home in Fyrithil, their spouse and daughter waiting for her return. Her mind goes back and forth rapidly from the analysis of this drastic spike in crime and the anxious worry of her family. Caught in her thoughts, she fails to notice the lone figure behind her, dagger aimed perfectly at the back of her throat.

  • Epilogue for December 2025

In a clear and decisive moment, Zoren was destroyed by the Heroes of Travance. The radiance of the sun and light cut through the dense miasma that Zoren had blanketed the village of Thistlepine Hollow in. In this victory, Travance made one thing abundantly clear: it was already hard enough to live on this side of the Great Rift; the Heroes would not allow a creature to enslave and kill the commoners who made their life here. Travance would not allow such a monster to take root, as long as they could intervene. However, the Heroes demonstrated that heroics lie not only in defeating monsters. Travance showed its might in areas where it often forgets it excels. They worked together to collect supplies. They collaborated in rebuilding. They demonstrated their creativity to ensure the Village of Thistlepine Hollow was left in a better condition than when they entered it. They showed kindness to refugees and ensured that they stood with the commoners, not just over them. The Town did not reclaim Thistlepine Hollow for its own ego; they did it for the residents who now rode in wagons as they finally returned home. ------------------ The sounds and sights of wagons, carrying those who were evacuated from Thistlepine Hollow, were astounding. Through the organization of the Nobility, anyone who had needed shelter during this time had one. Not only were they provided respite all over the lands of the Barony, but they were also provided supplies and food to bring back, ensuring that their storehouse would be filled again without issue. No one would go hungry in their reclaimed Village. The wagons traveled in a single line. For Locke, Averlae, and Merin, that line went as far as their eyes could see. They watched people reunite. Protected by a rebuilt and improved palisade, as well as a strange but welcome ice, ensuring extra defense. The earliest to return were militia members, who were already present because of their assistance in rebuilding. Despite the labor they had done, they seemed refreshed and taken care of. The families of Thistlepine Hollow began to assess what of their small homes they had left and were surprised to find that in many cases their homes were in better repair than they had been before the maladies had taken hold. The number of thanks whispered to Travance could not be heard by the Heroes in full, though the wind carried as many as it could. The large reunion did not mean the Village stopped, however. That evening, prayer was still held within the mission house. Restored, reconsecrated, and reinvigorated to uphold Valos’ ideals as the villagers trickled in. Some had fear and hesitation as they entered. “What if the awful things start happening again?” Merin met the fear openly and with kindness. It was understandable to be afraid; the village had experienced tragedy together, but together they would heal. Merin told stories of the Heroes of Travance, the times they protected them and the others, the monsters they faced. Merin invited Locke to talk, who told them of the ways they taught them to heal, how to use scrolls, and bolstered them in the face of cruelty and horror. Averlae did not speak in the mission house, nor did Merin make her. It would be in quiet moments after prayer that Averlae would ask for help. It was not the whole town, but some chose to reach into the darkness, to sit with her and show her that she could let go of fears and anxieties. It was not an easy task, and it would not be something that would see resolution in one weekend. For now, tea with Merin while they talked would be a good first step. The next morning, the small village bustled with more vitality than it had seen in nearly half a year. The forgemaster found the forge to work with an ease that reminded him of younger days when his body was more forgiving. Smoke billowed from the smithy as he worked, allowing the inspiration that may have come from Brazen himself to flow through him. Even the ideas that seemed reckless were tested that day. Following his instinct, he got to work in his bout of creation.  It was a gathering to watch the first one to collect water from the well at first daylight. The cheers that erupted when crystal clear, almost glimmering water was pumped through a new manual pump. The crisp water itself seemed renewed as if it could heal maladies on its own, thanks to the purification of the area.  However, water itself, while a giver of life, could not replace the need for the infirmary. Locke thought the act of taking note of what was stocked here would be easy; however, they returned to bursting drawers and shelves. No want for bandages, herbal tonics, and even scrolls would ensure that what they did not know how to do as a healer, they would be able to do as a physician. There was loneliness in this moment; it wasn’t the same without Isolde. However, Locke was emboldened and hopeful thanks to Travance. The town had taught them confidence. To know that they did not need to do this alone. That help was always available. -------------- A Warning about Asuang, as told by Solarians Within the rainforests dwells Asuang, the Mother of the Unfit. Corrupted long ago from her duties, it is said she has had a hand in the creation of many monsters within our land. All who hide their nature in the day to show their true selves at night.  From her spawn creatures of the Soil, Air, and Sea. Her defiance of Naesala is to accept the destruction of the community. It is why it is important to know your neighbors. Hold them close. Care for your people and strive to improve together. Otherwise, should you find yourself in the rainforest at night, Asuang will bring out the reflection of the monstrous within us to send us back to harm that which we love.

  • Prologue December 2025

The Legend of the Manananggal as Told by Solarians: Even in the dead of night, Asuang, a dedicated Solar Knight, could feel the rays of Naesala at the end of the path she walked. She had given much of her life in service, and this illness made the rays that she used to find solace in, instead, fill her with pain. She was not sure what was wrong. She thought she was helping a sick man, but he had bitten her. At the time, she felt worse for failing him. However, she now found herself unwell, and despite the injury healing, she knew her malady was from that bite.  It was unfortunate for Asuang that vampires would not be understood in Toko Oro Sol for many years still. So, she did what anyone else in her position would do. She pilgrimaged to a trial of Naesala, in hopes that Naesala would see the dedication and purge her of whatever her malady was. Despite the hope in her heart and the conviction to see it through, she would succumb fully to the disease in her last steps. Naesala’s attention was drawn in those final moments, and in an attempt to rid Asuang of the disease, they used their power to destroy the bodily corruption. Asuang quickly became an unwilling participant in the act, as the very power to purge the corruption also delivered pain that felt like death.  In a malicious retort, Asuang broke her oaths as she struck Naesala. In the conflict, she managed to grab one single feather. Naesala utilized the connection between themself and the feather to encapsulate the disease. The Primal Spirit hoped that one day Asuang would have enough sense to let them help. However, as with all living things, the disease twisted within this cage, the feather transforming into a small black chick inside the former Solar Knight.  On a well-trodden road towards Travance In the late afternoon, a wagon carrying four common folk rattles on towards the town. They knew that within the next day or so, they should reach Travance Proper. As much as the group wanted to push the horses harder, they knew it was better to stop, especially with the sun starting to set.  No one in the Wagon was excited to be part of the party to reach out to the ones who could help their home, but with the Headman and the Town Healer dead, there were very few pillars of Thistlepine Hollow left and very many ill and endangered villagers.Locke, the apprentice to the former healer, organized the emergency travel with several other villagers. They had begun to learn about organizing and knowing when it was not a problem to solve alone, thanks to their mentor. After some pleading, the newest to town, Zoren, rode on the very back edge of the wagon. He had not intended to make the village his home, but when he arrived, the town needed a healer, and Locke convinced him to stay to mentor them. After settling on a spot, they started to set a fire. The sun would soon disappear over the horizon, and warmth was needed before then. The group sat around, together, trying to reassure one another that the Heroes of Travance would save their village. Certainly, Thistlepine Hollow was worth saving? Their discussion, however, would be cut short as they heard the flapping of large leathery wings and the sounds of a large bat locking onto the group. Then there were only screams and scrambling.
